Alexandra spearheaded NOCD’s official OCD Awareness Month in 2021, building upon the IOCDF’s OCD Week.
In it’s first year, OCD Awareness Month launched a public calendar featuring educational & informative resources produced by NOCD’s experts & community partners, all designed to raise awareness of this severe mental illness. Events & resources included education for Mom’s who experience Postpartum OCD, resources for those who are new to evidence-based exposure and response (ERP) therapy, and in-person IOCDF OCD Walks to connect with other community members in your area.
The second annual OCD Awareness Month was expanded further and kicked off with a virtual panel featuring NOCD spokesperson Howie Mandel; Dr. Kenneth Duckworth, Chief Medical Officer of NAMI; along with Stephen Smith, CEO & Co-founder of NOCD; Mia Nuñez, PhD, West Regional Clinical Director at NOCD; and moderated by NOCD’s Chief Clinical Officer, Patrick McGrath, PhD. The panel focused on destigmatizing OCD and promoted the release of NAMI’s top-rated guide to navigating mental health. In 2022, NOCD produced & supported 70 events, and was able to reach more than 3.6 million lives.
Other programming included: An appearance by Howie Mandel on the Jennifer Hudson Show raising OCD awareness that reached nearly one million viewers, according to Nielsen.
Six NOCD Academy courses providing FREE continuing education credits to 1,060 registered healthcare professionals.
A Cigna Healthcare article, 17 expert & community Q&A sessions, 2 workshops, 2 industry webinars, covering “Best Practices for Identifying OCD” and “Handling the Taboo & Superstitious Thoughts of OCD,” and eight community giveaways including 1,000 copies of “You Are Not Alone,” NAMI’s mental health guide, given away
Programming continues on each year working to reach even more through awareness & activation.
